915 Gearbox Case Rebuild
The youngest 915 gearboxes are now 35 years old and most have done many miles. Most gearboxes that we rebuild have suffered from wear and tear and almost all have cases with worn bearing journals that are no longer within
the factory tolerance.
The youngest 915 gearboxes are now 35 years old and most have done many miles. Most gearboxes that we rebuild have suffered from wear and tear and almost all have cases with worn bearing journals that are no longer within
the factory tolerance.
We measure each bearing journal very accurately including the pinion bearing journal in the main casing.
The measurement of each bearing journal is recorded and compared to the factory wear tolerance so that we can advise which journals require
repair.
If the bearing journals require repair they are machined oversize.
This is done for each individual or all of the journals in each separate part of the case. We can just perform the bearing journal repair on your 915 case for you
or incorporate the bearing journal repair with a complete 915 gearbox rebuild.
When the journals are outside of the factory tolerance the cases are
machined. The journals are milled out to allow for a precision machined bearing journal insert.
The insert for the Final Drive case is made of high quality C45 steel. If the bores for the gear selector shafts are worn we can also machine them and install a precision bronze bush to restore them to their original size.
Once fitted, the steel insert is line bored to the original factory size.
This can also be done for the Main case. For the insert of the main case we use high quality aluminium.
This insert is also line bored to the correct size and once the bearings are installed they are secured with steel locking plates.
Finally the ring and pinion will need to be checked / adjusted to the factory installation dimension
If we are repairing you worn case but not rebuilding the gearbox, you can send us the pinion shaft and differential and we will make the necessary adjustments. We
have the equipment and shims to make it as delivered by the factory when it was new.
