356 Pre-A Split case Gearbox overhaul
Porsche 356 pre A splitcase overhaul
The pre A and early T1's were essentially using VW gearboxes that were prone to early deterioration because of the Magnesium sort that they were made of.
This results in wear around the pinion bearing-seating and eventually the bearing comes loose. Back in the days this would mean the end of the gearbox, but with rising interest in number-matching gearboxes, we looked at a way to repair and improve them.

The worn bearing journal is accurately machined larger to accept a repair sleeve manufactured by us. This restores the gearbox case to factory tolerance and prevents the wear occurring again.
This sleeve ensures a perfect fitting that will not wear out the case any longer and brings back specifications as given by the Porsche factory.
We can also install a dowel pin to prevent the bearing from turning in the gearbox case exactly as Porsche did in period for the 550 Spyder’s and later 356’s.
We made the sleeve as small as possible to minimalisme the material we have to machine out of the gearbox.
We can do this job on your housing but we can also do the complete gearbox overhaul of your 356 gearbox
